[FIX] Sitemap.xml Not Found

How to Fix “Sitemap.xml Not Found”

How to Fix “Sitemap.xml Not Found” If your Sitemap.xml is not found, that’s something you should immediately address as it’s really important. You want to fix that right away and fortunately, it’s very easy to do and I’ll show you how to do that right now.

First, you want to log in to WordPress.

Then go to your all-in-one SEO plugin or Yoast SEO. If you’re using Yoast, you may need to activate the XML Sitemap feature as it may not be activated by default. In which case, go click on your all-in-one SEO, scroll down to feature manager and you may need to activate this.

If this button right by the XML sitemaps card says Activate, you’ll need to click that and then that should be ready after that. You might have to also refresh the page.

If you click on the XML sitemap in the left side navigation, you can set your sitemap to be auto-updated on a schedule. For right now, it doesn’t need to be.

You might want to do this monthly or if you’re blogging weekly or daily, obviously select one of those options.

This ‘Enable a sitemap indexes’ can be checked or unchecked. It’s not terribly important but if you have a lot of different types of pages and posts, testimonials, and images then this option might come in handy although you don’t need to do that right now. Once you’re done, scroll down to the bottom and click on Update Sitemap.

What that will do is create a fresh XML sitemap. You should see something at the top of the page where you can click on the text ‘XML site map’ and it will actually take you to a page where you can view your site map which looks something like this.

Once you do this, you’ll want to watch our tutorial on how to submit a sitemap to Google which is fairly easy to do.

Essentially, you’ll just have to take the URL of this page that you’re seeing here and provide it directly to Google so that there’s no question that they can find it.
