Incorrect Pages Found In Sitemap.xml
Fixing Incorrect Pages Found in Your Sitemap
Incorrect pages in your sitemap usually mean that old or removed pages are still listed in the sitemap. This happens when pages are deleted or deactivated but the sitemap hasn’t been updated.
To fix this, you need to regenerate your sitemap in your SEO plugin.
Regenerating the Sitemap
If you’re using the All in One SEO plugin, go to your WordPress dashboard and open All in One SEO → XML Sitemap. Make a small change in the settings and update the sitemap to force it to regenerate.
While updating, you can also clean up the sitemap by:
-
Including only pages and posts
-
Removing unnecessary taxonomies
-
Reviewing options like dynamic sitemap generation or sitemap indexes
After updating the sitemap, run your SEMrush site audit again to check if the issue is resolved.
A Note About Yoast SEO
The process is similar with Yoast SEO, but its sitemap feature can sometimes produce errors that are harder to fix. This is one reason some users prefer other SEO plugins.
